Quick Post

I just finished watching game one of the New Jersey Devils vs. LA Kings in the finals.  Unfortunately, the Devils lost 2-1 in overtime.  They didn't play very well the entire game.  Oh well.  They lost game 1 the last two series' and here they are.  Ya never know!  Off to bed, gym in 6 hours...

If at first you don't suceed, try, try again

Although I wrote my book, The Teacher That Didn't Teach almost a year ago, I am still trying to find publishers and get the word out there.  I talked to an author that comes to my school every few months today.  She asked if I had an agent and I told her I have no money for one.  She told me they are free.  For some reason, I thought I would have to pay a lot of money for an agent.  I guess not!  So now I am going to start sending query letters to agents.  If I get an agent, he/she will help me with making my book better and they are in charge of sending it to publishers.  An agented book has a much better chance of getting published than a nonagented book.  We will see if I can land an agent!  I just gotta keep trying!  Speaking of getting the word out there... My book will be mentioned in the Unwind section of the Times Union newspaper this Sunday June 3!  Check it out!

Memorial Day

It was nice to have an extra day off!  However, I had to water proof my deck.  That was fun (sarcasm).  The best part was, I had to deal with my older brother being a negative Nancy the entire time.  Now that both of my brothers are home again, I want to move out sooooo badly.  Too bad I don't have enough money or a roommate to do so.  After that, I just stayed outside in the sun the entire day.  On days like today, I breathe, therefore I sweat.  It's pretty gross actually.  I can't help it, though.  I love the hot weather.  I will take it any day over the cold.  It's going to be awesome to have a 4 day week at school.  I can't believe there are only 4 weeks left in the school year!  Crazy!  I'm going to bed early tonight because I'm going to the gym at 5:30 tomorrow morning... Later

Have I mentioned I don't like working at a grocery store?

I walk into work today at 8 o'clock.  Normally, on Sunday's I start at 7.  Today, they had me starting at 8.  My boss comes right up to me and asks if I hung up the ad yet.  I said that I just got here.  She said why.  I said because that's when YOU scheduled me!  Then I got written up for being short money on a register with a few other people.  Needless to say, I was NOT happy at all today at work.  Luckily it was only 4 hours.  After that, I went to my friends grad school graduation party.  I got to meet a lot of her family and friends.  It was a really good time.  However, of course I had to talk about what I do for a living.  Every single day I am telling people I am stuck looking for a teaching job.  I know how lucky I am to have a computer aide job and a job at a grocery store, even though I profusely hate that job!  However, when 725 people apply for 2 elementary positions, it is impossible to be positive about my situation.  It is beyond frustrating that I make very little with my two jobs while I have a masters degree.  I am too good for that grocery store.  It requires little brain power on my part.  The only reason I stay is because the money I make is my pocket money.  It works out nicely.  One day...one day I will be out of there!  That's what I keep hoping for!!!

Day off!

I slept until almost 10:30 today!  That is unbelievably late for me!  I visited my grandparents for lunch today.  That's always a good time.  They like to tell me stories that they have already told me numerous times.  I don't mind though, because I hate to say it, but I never know when it could be the last time I see them :(.  I didn't really do much after that until I hung out with my two really good friends for awhile!  I am NOT looking forward to work at the grocery store in about 8 hours.  Shockingly, I am very tired (sarcasm).  Off to bed for me.  See ya!

DEVILS WIN!

During the regular season, I do not watch much hockey.  However, I pay attention to my favorite team, the New Jersey Devils.  Once it's playoffs time, I watch them religiously.  Tonight, they won a tough game to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals!  I am so excited!  Now that it's Friday night, I can also attempt to sleep later than usual on another muggy night.  Good night!

New Goal

I have had this idea in my head for a very long time.  Unfortunately, since I am not a classroom teacher yet, I have not been able to utilize it.  However, I don't want to be a hypocrite when the time comes.  Therefore, I am going to start my idea TONIGHT.  When I have my own classroom, I want my students to write a few sentences (or more) about whatever they are thinking at that moment at the end of each day or as homework (I haven't decided yet).  They can write about how the day went, what they are thinking and feeling, what they are looking forward to do, what they aren't looking forward to, etc.  The possibilities are endless.  I will tell my students that no one will read their journals besides myself.  The ultimate goal with this project is for students to get their thoughts on paper and look back on this years from now and remember the moments they had throughout their lives.  It will be a way for them to express themselves.  They can write if they are angry about something or anything else that is happening in their lives.  Since I want my students to do this, I will do this, too.  HOPEFULLY, I will write a post each night about how my day went and what I am thinking. (Unless I am on a cruise like I will be in 3 months!!!)

So... here it goes!

Thursday May 24, 2012

I am greatly looking forward to the weekend.  I have been working so hard lately and been very busy reading about publishing my book, working, working out, and trying to promote my book via social media.  Memorial Day weekend is finally here.  That means I get my Saturday and Monday off.  I am still working at a grocery store on Sunday's.  Today I worked out in the morning and had a very busy day at work.  Teachers needed wires fixed, laptops fixed, and help setting up technology.  Students were all using the color printer at once, and the printer decided to be slower than dirt.  No complaints!  I like keeping busy at work!  On the bright side, my grandparents took the entire family out to an Italian Restaurant for dinner tonight.  The reason was because my mom went over to their house to help them with a few things, so they decided to take us ALL out as a thank you.  Thanks, mom!    I am excited about tomorrow nights game 6 in the New Jersey Devils vs. New York Rangers Eastern Conference Finals series!  If Devils win, they go to the finals!  It's only 9:16 and I am completed EXHAUSTED.  Hopefully I will get a good nights sleep on this humid night!  The great thing about waking up each day is that no matter how scheduled and planned your day is, it is still going to have unpredictable twists and turns that you will have to work your way through.  We will see what tomorrow brings!  Good night!

There needs to be more hours in a day!

Finding time to write lately has been harder and harder.  Between working 6 days a week, working out, cooking, cleaning, and attempting to have a social life, it has been very hard to find time to work on book 2.  However, I have edited my first book so that it is as perfect as it can be.  Also, my book is now available at The Book House in Stuyvesant Plaza!  I really hope to have my second book out by the end of the summer.  That's my new goal!  For now, enjoy my first book and anticipate the second!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's out there!  However, my mom is BY FAR the best mom in the world!  Well, for starters, she gave me life.  Hmmm, she paid for college, I live at home FOR FREE, and she listens to me obsess about my book every 5 seconds.  Yeah, I told you, she's one cool chick!  But seriously, hope you all had an awesome day.  Remember to check the top tabs for information about my first book, The Teacher That Didn't Teach and how you can purchase a copy.  As always, thanks for checking in!  Talk to you soon!

Can't believe it's May already!

The school year is FLYING by for me!  I am currently reading some books about publishing and advertising to get my book out there.  I hope to continue working on my second book shortly.  It has been a crazy last couple of weeks with testing in school and just various other things I do after school.  Really hoping to sit down, focus, and write away!
